Experienced Veterinary Assistant

Job description:
Duties
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with various procedures and treatments
- Aid in assisting veterinarians with appointments and time management
- Handle and restrain canines and felines during examinations and procedures
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, treatment room, and kennels
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as bloodwork and urinalysis with in-house analyzers
- Perform radiographs on sedated and non-sedated pets
- Provide post-operative care and monitor animals during recovery
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient treatments and procedures
- Effectively communicating to pet owners on proper animal care, medication administration, and doctor recommendations
- Preparing treatment estimates per veterinarians recommendation
Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year veterinary experience, 2 years is preferred
- Able to commit 32-40 hours weekly
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, procedures and medications
- Familiarity with aseptic technique and infection control protocols
- Ability to handle pets of various sizes and temperaments safely and compassionately
- Strong communication skills to interact with pet owners and fellow veterinary staff
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, 4 doctor hospital, while maintaining a high level of professionalism
- Willingness to learn new skills and stay updated on veterinary practices
- Properly administer medications subcutaneously, intravenously, intramuscularly and orally
- Ability to lift 40lbs
Preferred
- Familiarity with Covetrus Pulse (EVET) PIMS
- Fear Free Certified
- Venipuncture skills
- VACSP (Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit)

Job Type: Full-time/Part-time
Salary: $20+/hr based on experience
